Graffiti Knitting at the Banksy Tunnel in Waterloo

On Saturday 1st August I Knit London will be joining up with knitters, crocheters and graffiti artists for some urban knitting insaide The Tunnel - a unique space underneath Waterloo Station.

The Tunnel (Leake Street) is a disused road running beneath the railway which reopened in 2008 with installations and art by hundreds of graf artists, curated by Banksy. Since then The Tunnel has become a blank canvas for any street artists who wish to use the space as their own. The ever changing 'gallery' includes everything from simple tags to huge single paintings, and it has been the backdrop of many a photoshoot, TV ad and music video.

Gritting (graffiti-knitting) is the art of leaving knitted pieces on street furniture, bollards, trees etc and there are a number of urban knitters brightening up cityscapes across the Uk and overseas. We want to bring both graffiti and yarnbombing together for this unique event.

I will be there! Am knitting a few pieces in advance and might take some stencils down as well. Would be great if some good graffiti artists can come down...
