Highly anticipated sequel to the original album from Wu-Tang affiliate Raekwon The Chef drops August 11.
There's some tune off it called 'New Wu', it features Method Man and Ghostface. Sounds aight'. Return to the golden era...?
'The sleeping king of Shaolin has made an uncanny return known lately through a number of mixtape appearances. With his latest release, Flashback Memories, the song revisits a reminiscent past for the gritty, mafioso story teller we all grew to admire in the 90’s. The momentous era which is now defined as “The golden age of Hip Hop” is far fetched from today’s contemporary rap music — where lyricism and storytelling were once key, they have now been replaced with the smoked mirrors of image and “club friendly” songs. Rae promises deliver as he did when he was apart of the New York City hip hop era that reigned supreme in the early 90’s. He’s made it clear that OB4CL2 will be keeping true to his roots and going back to what he normally does with no intent on dropping “club friendly” songs to garner commercial success. He refers to his production lineup as a “Gumbo of Heat” and rightfully so, with Hip Hop hall of famers Dr. Dre, Pete Rock, J Dilla and RZA on board, it would be hard to think otherwise. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 coming this August 11th, 2009.'

Uncle Remus
Here are some representations of Uncle Remus. A character from the traditional African American Folklore stories as told by Joel Chandler Harris from Atlanta, Georgia (1845-1908). The tales include the trickster Br'ere Rabbit and Uncle Remus depicted as the story-teller as well as Br'ere Fox and Br'ere Wolf. I've been trying to find out as much as possible about him all morning as well as how he is represented artistically.
The only thing I can't grasp is why there is so much drama surrounding racism in regard to the tales! Pah I can't get my head around it. All I know is i've been told these tales since I was very small and I never ever associated them with racism.

C.E.M Joad
Ok so I randomly stumbled upon this book in the Oxam Book Shop. I shall review it in time, but you shall have to wait for the magazine for that, and of course for me to finish reading the book. The author is absolutely amazing! And I recommend to anyone who has the remotest interest in Science, Philosophy or the Arts to find out more about him.
Mr. Cyril Edwin Mitchinson Joad (1891-1953) was a popular English Philosopher and Author. He also was a member of the Fabian Society (part of the socialist movement of which i'm very interested in at the moment). He sounds like a guy after my own heart to be fair. He was a sex maniac for one. He would dress in 'shabby' clothing in order to test people who were considered too 'petty' to make his aquaintance. And my favourite fact: 'Joad once boasted in print that “I cheat the railway company whenever I can'' In April 1948, Joad was convicted of travelling on a Waterloo-Exeter train without a valid ticket. Although he was a frequent fare dodger, he failed to give a satisfactory excuse. This made front-page headlines in the national newspapers, and the fine of £2 destroyed all hopes of a Peerage and resulted in his dismissal from the BBC. The humiliation of this had a massive effect on his health, and he soon became bed-confined at his home in Hampstead" His fame and broadcasting career were over.' (extract from wikipedia.com)

C. E. M JOAD Died of Cancer in 1953. Here are my first thoughts after reading the first chapter of his book 'The Guide to Modern Thought' Published in 1933 (Finally found someone who can read Roman Numerals):
'Matter caused variation, which subsequently led to the evolution of man from amoeba according to Darwin. Now we are an evolved species we are destroying our matter. Does this mean we are undoing evolution? We are going backwards because of our obsession with matter. But the material isn't real. The mind is real. Are we going full circle? Have we started DE-EVOLUTION?'

Method Man Claims Weed Made Him Forget To Pay His Taxes
A bit late on this, but still.
"Method Man told the New York Daily News that the state Department of Taxation showed up at his Long Island home at 6 a.m. with "four NYPD cops and the repo team," and he "knew why they were there. It wasn't like 'Oh my God! Noo!! Don't take it!' like it is on that TV show ["Operation Repo"]. I was half-dressed, and it was so early that I just said, 'Okay, you're taking the truck. ... Aight.'"

NARROWS PRE-ORDERS UP NOW!!!
Pre-order now: Narrows "New Distances" CD, T-Shirt (vinyl soon)
Pre-order now in the DW Estore.
CD in stores May 12th (vinyl shortly thereafter).
Spread out across both the United States and two continents, Narrows exists despite geographical inconveniences for the sole purpose of creating devastating noise. Though outside obligations will most likely relegate the live Narrows experience to a truly rare event, the shared need to exorcise their collective demons fuels the trans-global project. Dave Verellen (Botch, Roy), Rob Moran (Unbroken, Some Girls, Over My Dead Body), Ryan Frederiksen (These Arms Are Snakes, Nineironspitfire), Jodie Cox (Tropics, Rohame, Bullet Union), and Sam Stothers (Makeout Boys, Quarantine) are busy men with busy lives. The Narrows project is not meant to define and drive their individual lives. Rather, the band serves as a respite; a rare opportunity to escape; a vengeful howl from the basest corner of the psyche. In those rare moments when the five men find themselves in the same city, the quintet seizes the opportunity to combine their disparate talents to craft their unique brand of aural malice.
Soon, Narrows will offer up their first proper full length album titled "New Distances". Anchored by a minimalist punk framework and elaborated by squalls of angular guitar noise, the music is simultaneously beguiling and dissonant. Helmed by Verellen's signature roar, the resulting compositions owe as much to the early hardcore pioneers as to New York and London's post-punk founders. Terminally bleak, counter-intuitive to the standard rock paradigm, and at odds with everyone, Narrow's debut is an angry slab of nihilistic abandon.

SOUND AND FURY FESTIVAL! 2009
WHEN AND WHERE
Dates: July 31, August 1, and August 2, 2009
Venue: El Rodeo Community Center
Address: 451 W. Hueneme Rd., Oxnard, CA 93033
STAGE SOUND / STAGE FURY
This year we are pleased to announce that we will have a 2 stage set-up for the first time. The two stage set-up could be most comparable to the Rivalry Showcase's Phoenix Theater arrangement with the main stage ("Sound") and the lobby stage ("Fury"). Why? We wanted to add more bands - simple as that. This won't affect the ticket price, but will accommodate more bands, and hopefully you will be excited about that, as we are. There will be no overlapping of sets, so if your intention is to see every band who plays - you could do that.
UPDATED LINEUP
We are happy to announce the addition of the following bands to our lineup. There will be one more band announcement due to the addition of the 'Fury' Stage. If you are an interested band who has yet to hear from us - please feel free to message us. We are closing in on our final lineup, but we have a few spaces still available.

80 Blocks From Tiffany's
Found this film on KickToKill Blog.
Watched the first little bit as i'm short for time, but it looks sick.
Review from IMDB...
An intimate look at life on the streets for young teens gang members. Black and Latino teenagers of the South Bronx struggle to make it on the streets. This is Pre Hip - Hop, Pre Rap, and before Break Dancing took over the youth culture of the Bronx. It is right before the advent of Graffiti writers/bombers and Break Dance Crews that took off and became the new black culture a few years later. The film takes place in the summer of 1979. Shockingly realistic interviews with gang members of the infamous Savage Nomads and the savage skulls. Amazingly this authentic documentary does not contain any of the normal pitfalls that befuddle today's more exploitive investigative reports on gangs of the " 60mins." type. Filmmaker Gary Weis of SNL and "Ruddles" fame manages to let the kids speak for themselves. Most of the footage are real interviews. A few scenes are reannactments of stories as told by some of the younger street kids. A rare glimpse into late 70's New York towards the end of the infamous South Bronx Gangs. Anyone who is a fan of "The Warriors" would appreciate this film. The documentary shows many sides of the mainly Puerto Rican / Lation community of the South Bronx including. reformed gang members, current gang members, the police, and the community leaders who try and reach out to them. A film like this is simply unable to be made today !
Ol Dirty Varsity Jacket
Clocked this jacket on the Alife website, it's money though...$350.
Still, it's a dope jacket, mad attention to detail and good quality like most Alife products. It's on my wishlist ahah.

G20 Protests in London
This is a video from when yesterday's G20 protest got a tad bit violent. Mwahaha. Although not in attendance I have been following avidly the goings on. There's no point going today police are EVERYYYYWHERE and there not letting anyone into the City unless you have ID to prove you work there. If anyone wants to attempt going to the ExCel Centre at Docklands there will be protesters there today but security is tiggggghhhtt.
This was the view at the London Stock Exchange (Canary Wharf) This morning.
